What's New

The Tampico Area Historical Society was organized in 1990. The Society was started by a small group of concerned citizens, wishing to preserve the history of the Tampico Area.
Members began meeting in a local meeting room, but soon the owners of the Ronald Reagan Birthplace purchased two store buildings which had been destroyed by fire and donated the buildings to the Society. Through grants, fundraisers, and a lot of elbow grease, the buildings were made fit for occupancy. They now house the local volunteer town library and the Historical Museum.

A great deal of memorabilia has been collected from the local area, and it is displayed both inside and outside the building.

The purpose of the Tampico Area Historical Society is to collect, preserve and display historical artifacts and memorabilia; promote research, exploration, and discovery into the history of the Villages of Tampico, Deer Grove, Yorktown, Thomas, the Township of Hume, and the early inhabitants of the land upon which the villages are located; and to educate the citizens and future generations about the history of the Tampico Area.
